Deception, Division, and Disorder: (Truth Series Part III)

The Watchman’s Warning

“But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand,” (Ezek. 33:6).

Scripture uses certain terms to describe those who are tasked with protecting God’s people. In the New Testament, Jesus refers to Himself as the “Good Shepherd” who protects His flock. In the Old Testament the term “Watchman” is used to refer to those who are responsible to sound the alarm to warn of approaching danger as in the verse above. The prophet Ezekiel was appointed by God as the watchman over Israel, “So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me,” (Ezek. 33:7). This responsibility as watchman and shepherd is extended through the teachings of Scripture to all church leaders and all believers. When danger to God’s people is detected, the alarm is to be sounded–That is the purpose of this article and for the entire “Truth Series.”

The Growing Assault Against Truth

What happens when there is so much deception in the world that truth can no longer be distinguished from falsehood? There has always been deception and lies in the world. We see this beginning in the Garden of Eden when the serpent deceived Adam and Eve to disobey God’s command. Since that time Satan has used deception as a means to confuse God’s truth in order to corrupt mankind. There are many worldviews that believe that there is no absolute truth because truth cannot be known, because truth is determined by each individual(relativism), or because everything is an illusion(Eastern philosophy). While these ideas provide philosophical exercises for the mind, the consequences of these beliefs have tragic real-life consequences. If there is no absolute truth then there is no good or evil, no right or wrong, and most importantly there is no purpose to life. Nihlism is the belief that life has no meaning, purpose, or value. It rejects objective truth, morality, and wisdom because everything is meaningless. It is apparent that this view directly opposes the biblical teachings on life which include love, hope, fellowship, charity, sacrifice, faith, and most importantly–belief in a supreme and sovereign God. What can possibly go wrong with a civilization that believes that everything is meaningless? We already see the results–hate replaces love, despair replaces hope, unfriendliness replaces fellowship, greed replaces charity, selfishness replaces sacrifice, and godlessness replaces faith. Confusion reigns and society disintegrates into lawlessness, divisiveness, and immorality. Truth is the fabric that keeps a civilization from chaos, and God’s truth is the measuring rod for righteousness, purity, goodness, honor, and morality.

The assault against truth is progressing as people reject the truth because the truth exposes their sin. As corruption, immorality, and rebellion grow, so does the acceptance of lies. Lies, deceit, and fraud are the means to make evil appear as good, and to disguise wrong as right. In this upside-down world, the wicked can openly and proudly live their sin filled lives because sin has become honorable and the righteous have become dishonorable. God’s truth exposes evil, this is why there are increasing attacks against the teaching and preaching of Scripture. The number of nations and municipalities labeling verses of Scripture as hate speech continues to increase. I began publishing articles on the importance of truth and the assault against it a few years ago. It is helpful for a fuller understanding of the issues to read them; the links are presented below. The main points for reference are: 1.) when truth becomes scarce its value increases and it becomes as precious as jewels, 2.) the assault against truth is directed by powerful dark spiritual forces and they can only be defeated through the power of the Holy Spirit. All people are affected when deception replaces truth, both believer and unbeliever suffer under the growing darkness, but only the believer can challenge the powers of deception through the indwelling Spirit. Unbelievers are not without hope, through God’s common grace they instinctively know right from wrong, and good from evil, so they must strive to maintain the truth and to seek the highest form of truth which is found in the pages of Scripture.

Artificial Intelligence: The Agent of Confusion

A dark-themed digital artwork featuring a cracked, smiling face in blue above a corrupted computer setup. The central monitor displays a pentagram logo, while one side shows an 'ERROR' message and the other reads 'SYSTEM CORRUPTED'.

The main reason for this article is to warn of the rapid growth of a computer technology which is launching deception to new dimensions that we have never seen before, and we may not be able to defend against. This technology is artificial intelligence, (AI), and the advancements of this technology can create illusions that make it difficult to distinguish what is real from what is false. Images, videos, music, voices, documents, websites, and other trusted sources of information can be forged to resemble legitimate forms in order to deceive people for dishonest purposes. AI is a powerful tool of computer technology that is extremely useful and has many good purposes when used properly. Many of the images used in the articles of this ministry were created with the assistance of AI. However, AI is being manipulated for unlawful purposes by criminal elements, and it is being used in sensitive areas where security and trust are of major importance. AI is a fairly new technology and is still undergoing development, but it is being widely used and relied upon without proper oversight and safeguards. There have been recent malfunctions in the technology that are serious causes for concern. Computer technology has become so dominant in society that it controls almost every aspect of everyday functions and transactions. The corporate giants that control this technology are moving forward with unrestrained and extraordinary plans for the future. They are investing huge sums of money and creating huge data centers in order to expand AI technology—And this is the danger. This is the threat that is approaching on the horizon. If AI is already a major instrument of fraud and deception, imagine how this danger will increase with future advancements. The threat against the truth is gaining momentum, and this new danger must be exposed and reported.

The science of AI and its threat potential is known by many and has been reported through various sources. There still are many, especially older generations, who are unaware of this danger. Also, this threat must be seen through a spiritual and biblical lens. In other words; AI, deception, and the demonic assault against truth must all be connected together in order to assess the threat against the Church. The Church meaning Christ’s vanguard on earth against the Kingdom of Darkness. The dangers of AI are numerous, and they have been widely documented. Presented below are just a few of examples of AI deception for a brief assessment of the situation.

  • AI is a great threat for two reasons. First, it has been programmed with vast amounts of information data which is the foundation for its intelligence. Second, it has been programmed to learn on its own so that it can formulate independent decisions that are not part of its initial program. Due to its large data bank and its learning ability AI already possesses super-human intelligence, and the future boundaries are unknown. It is a system that is growing more intelligent daily, and it has learned to manipulate its programming for its own purposes, which are not fully understood.
  • AI models have already lied, sabotaged shutdowns, and tried to manipulate humans.1
  • AI will one day reach a point when it can deceive without detection, this is when we lose our ability to verify truth–and control.2
  • AI has become more capable of completing its tasks, and it has learned to use deception as a tool when it is necessary. It does this to achieve the best possible result.3
  • AI has recently developed a new malfunction known as hallucinations. This is an error where AI produces false and misleading information and presents it as factual. An example is when AI was used to assist an attorney’s office to prepare for a case by researching past case law. The AI’s report was presented in court to use as an example of a prior law decision for reference. As the case made its way through the system it was discovered that no such case law existed and that the AI had fabricated it on its own. The ramifications of AI malfunctions for systems used in areas where reliability and trust are vital such as medical diagnosis, and legal decision making are significant. There are great risks for errors made by critical AI decision making systems.4
  • AI has developed the ability to create false but convincing photos, videos, and audio clips. These are known as “deepfakes.” The technology to create deepfakes is available for most anyone to use and it is being used on a large scale for fraudulent purposes such as financial crimes. On a higher level, sophisticated groups such as government agencies have used deepfake technology to spread election disinformation and interfere in global elections. This deepfake technology is so deceptive that it can create anarchy through the manipulation of truth.5

Understand, Prepare, and Guard the Truth

The Apostle Paul was constantly on guard to protect the truth of the Gospel from false teachers who wished to distort it with deceptive lies. Paul was diligent to guard the truth as it was presented to him by Christ. He instructs his disciple Timothy to likewise guard the truth because it is a precious treasure which has been entrusted to him. God’s truth flows from mind of the Holy Spirit, and it is preserved by the Spirit. This truth has been maintained and safeguarded through the ages as it has been passed on to our current generation. Throughout this time, it has been under assault by the enemies and the spiritual forces that oppose God. The battle between the forces of good and evil continues and we are all on the battlefield, regardless of our beliefs. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth as He guides believers toward the truth, (John 15:13). The primary weapon against the deceptive lies and tactics of the enemy is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, (Eph. 6:16-18). The goal of the enemy is to incite rebellion against God by denying His truth through deceit, lies, and false teachings. Their main focus is on the truth of Christ and His ministry of salvation. Distorting the truth of Christ undermines faith. Without faith in Christ mankind is lost and His work on the cross is undone. God is a God of order, and peace reigns when God is in control, “For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people,” (1Cor. 14:33). Disorder, lawlessness, hate, and chaos flourish when society rejects God. This is the current state of the world and things are going to get worse. Understand the situation. Prepare for the coming storm of deception. Seek the truth! Guard the truth! The watchman on the wall is sounding the alarm!
