These same words could be preached today, and they would be just as true as they were 180 years ago. What was needed then, is the same thing that is needed now--A robust teaching on the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit. As Rev. McCheyne proclaimed in his sermon, "if ever you are to be saved, you must know Him." He also informs us that the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts to make us love God and hate sin.
Rejoice and Be Comforted Because God Has Placed His Seal Upon You!
God has placed His seal upon us as a marker indicating His ownership. Christians are the personal property of God and are given the guarantee of His ownership through the indwelling Holy Spirit. They are given God's seal and are anointed to shine as lights of righteousness to expose the wicked deeds of those who are in darkness.
The Holy Spirit and Spiritual Growth
Current research and polls indicate that there is a neglect of the teaching of proper church doctrine and essential teachings of the faith. Many churches have abandoned the teaching of spiritual growth and the work of the Spirit. This has left many Christians to cry out, “Feed us, we’re hungry!” Their spirits are not being nourished and fed with the deep teachings of the Word of God.
