Teaching Ministry

Purpose and Need for a Teaching Ministry

So Phillip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

(Acts 8:30-31)

The image and verse above so accurately represent the need and purpose of a teaching ministry. In the story from the book of Acts, the eunuch was the head of the treasury for Queen Candace of Ethiopia. The eunuch had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning home in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah. Philip, the Apostle, was directed by an angel to go to the location and run up alongside the chariot where he engaged the eunuch in the above verse. Phillip explained the verse to the eunuch and preached Jesus to him. The eunuch believed that Jesus was the Son of God and asked to be baptized. As they came upon a body of water, Phillip baptized him.

There are many like the eunuch who seek the faith, but they need a teacher to help them understand the proper meaning of Scripture and to teach them Christ as the Messiah who has come to pay the penalty for our sins. The Apostle Philip was sent by the angel to fulfil the Great Commission of Christ by taking the Gospel out into the world through teaching and preaching. All believers are meant to participate in the Great Commission to those in their sphere of influence. It is the ministry of the Holy Spirit that is responsible for the teaching of God’s word throughout the world. Every person who properly teaches the Gospel is inspired by the Spirit. In addition to this, the Spirit gives to certain members of the Body of Christ the gift of teaching. Those who have been given this gift must use this gift to teach others. They must come along side those who seek help in understanding the teachings of Scripture and give them the answers to their inquiries. The Spirit leads different teachers to those different groups that He has chosen them to reach. An example of this is the growing numbers of person in war torn areas of the Middle East where Muslims are seeking Christ and coming to faith. Many Christians who were persecuted in those countries and had to flee to escape being murdered are now returning as teachers to lead others to faith in Christ. Each of these persons has been gifted by the Spirit to teach and then given a special ministry to reach those persons.

A ministry such as this one, Hosea 4:6 Teaching Ministry, is such a ministry. In past times the local church was the primary teaching ministry for those in the faith and those seeking the faith. As the times have changed, so has the structure of many churches. They have strayed from the teachings of the Gospel of Christ and have neglected the ministry of teaching. Many have left the Church because it has lost its relevancy. While many others who were never of the faith are not attracted to it because they have not heard the true Gospel of Christ from the local churches, or from believers who have not received adequate instruction from their own churches. As people still search for the truth and desire instruction just as the eunuch from the story in the book of Acts did—then the Holy Spirit will answer through other teaching ministries such as this one. There are many areas of the world where proper teaching in the doctrines of the faith do not exist. There are also many areas where inquiry into Christianity is forbidden and those seeking answers could face punishment, even death. But if they have access to the internet, they can find instruction with some privacy away from public view. There are visitors to this site from all areas of the globe, including areas where Christians face extreme persecution. May God bless their pursuit of His truth and may this teaching ministry provide them with sufficient information for a proper foundation. May they also be led to other Spirit inspired ministries for greater instruction.
